Just wanted to share a little rewrite I made to a great Christmas Song. I changed the words of the Twelve Days of Christmas to The Twelve Days Till Christmas. We did this as a skit last night at a Relief Society Party. It was really fun and easy to prepare.
The words are all sung to the same tune until after KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL, then they are just spoken as each part gets to the point where it changes from the initial task.
Twelve days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Like finding the perfect tree
11 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Hanging up the lights
And finding the perfect tree
10 day s till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Gifts that are home made
Hanging up the lights
And finding the perfect tree
9 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Holiday baking
Gifts that are home made
Hanging up the lights
And finding the perfect tree
8 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
( EVERYONE) KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL (tune of five golden rings)
Holiday Baking
Gifts that are home made
Trying to hang up these stupid lights
And finding the perfect tree
7 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Company arriving
KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL
Holiday baking
Of course I have enough time to make everyone a pair of pajamas
Now they’re blinking, have they always done that?
And finding the perfect tree
6 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do.
Shopping, shopping, shopping
Company arriving
KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL
Still doing the baking
Why’d I want them home made?
Now the other half is blinking.
And finding the perfect tree
5 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Mailing Christmas Cards
Shopping, shopping, shopping
You mean we’re going to have your whole family here?
KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL
Is Fruitcake supposed to bounce?
What was I thinking?
Don’t we have another extension cord?
And finding the perfect tree
4 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Cleaning up the house
Mailing Christmas Cards
Getting tired of shopping
Company still arriving (Sounding annoyed)
KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL
Baking all these cookies
(CRYING) I just wanted to make them something special.
The front one’s are on, now the back ones are off
And finding the perfect tree
3 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Wrapping all the presents
Cleaning up the house
Addressing all these cards
I can’t believe how many people are shopping
No, no, of course you can stay with us. I’m sure the twins won’t mind sleeping in the garage
KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL
(Weary Sounding) Holiday baking
I wonder if K mart is still open.
Still trying to hang all these lights
And finding the perfect tree
2 days till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Going out to parties
Wrapping all the presents
This place keeps getting messy
Why are we sending out so many cards
So very tired of shopping
They just keep arriving
KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL
Getting tired of cookies
What do you mean the pajamas are all sold out?
Get a flashlight I think I blew a fuse
And finding the perfect tree
1 day till Christmas, there’s such a lot to do
Making Christmas Dinner
Going out to parties
Anybody got a giftbag?
Stop making a mess!
Do we even know all these people?
Next year everyone gets gift cards
They’re your family, you deal with them
KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL
( Sobbing) So many cookies”
“ Everyone could use a new pair of socks on Christmas.”
“Oh, I give up you put em’ up yourself.”
EVERYONE SLOWLY SING And finding the perfect tree

Now that is down "write" funny! It brings back so many memories - wonderful ones - of Christmas Pasts.

This is great! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI thought what made this funny was it was so true! You really got it right. Thanks for putting this together. It sounds like your life is pretty busy, too.
ReplyDeleteI loved that. It is only the 5th and I intend to skip most of those tasks and already I feel like the end of the song. I think this will become quite popular in school and church activities. Thanks for brightening my day.
ReplyDeleteCute song. For sanity, we need to simplify. That is my motto every year. Do I live it? Hmm.
